i pretty much despise the show "the city," but in my moments of complete bordem, i often watch it...just to criticize it of course. not only am i disappointed they outed southside and other places i like, but their lives are just kind of pathetic. and so fake. well. since i dont want to waste anymore time on these sad characters, i guess ill share my favorite thing about the city so far: refinerys 5 style sins of the city. here are my favorite three:

3. Wearing a "timeless" outfit to a rock concert you're not on time for: Olivia is more Bergdorf's than Beatrice, so we're willing to cut her a little slack on the fact that she does not know how to accessorize appropriately for a down-and-dirty rock concert at The Cutting Room. But she's definitely smart enough to know a white DvF blazer would not do the trick, and thus had only planned on doing multiple outfit changes to purposefully make Whitney late to her boyfriend's gig. So because we live in the real world, one in which the ability to make friends is considered a virtue and drycleaning bills make more of a dent in our wallets than they would in Olivia's shiny Chanel clutch, please: Do not be that girl who stands out from the rest of the beer-swilling crowd in a pressed-and-pristine ensemble, which is kind of the sartorial equivalent of having a giant "I Don't Belong Here" sign plastered on your forehead.

4. Making plaid the symbol of your "downtown" persona: Woe to Jay, his band, and everyone else who's somehow made plaid synonymous with American Apparel hipsters and dive bar dirtbags. If The City had a wardrobe department, which we wouldn't put past them, then we can imagine the stylist telling Jay and Co. that plaid somehow symbolizes their innate "downtownness," sort of like how Olivia's Birkin is supposed to symbolize wealth. But really, Jay, when you're talking about how hungover you are for the millionth time in that raggedy plaid button-down, you're just spoiling it for the rest of us who actually wear our checks without a side of douchebaggery.

5. Loading up on eye make-up when you know you're about to lose all your marbles: It's not that we don't appreciate a sexy smokey eye, but more that we wouldn't want it running all over our face. And yet, that seems to be exactly what our oft-wronged girl Allie seems to be fond of, because how else could you explain her penchant for wearing the darkest possible eye make-up to all her meetings with Adam, which, as we all know, inevitably ends in tears? Whether it's in Episode 6, where Allie wears raccoon eyes to MercBar, or in Episode 10, when she tells Adam she's getting her own place, Allie unfailingly lets her mascara smear all over her brokenhearted cheeks. On the upside, perhaps she's trying to convey to passerby that Adam has punched her and given her a black eye or something of the like, thereby bringing more pity to her cause.

so yesterday my wonderful friend erin who has a blog filled with "tiny thoughts" thought it would be fun to interview me. as i had some time over lunch, i agreed and started filling out my answers. here are the results.

Why do you think so many women rely on old, frumpy duds in the name of being comfortable?
Possibly because we were born naked, and comfortable is what we all crave? But comfy does not have to be frumpy…and comfy is in!
If you are looking for a warm look in winter/early spring, try a sweater dress or long knee-length sweater buttoned to the bottom like a dress. Make sure to pair the sweater dress with some cute heels or boots. That way you are not pulling the “I found this sweater on my floor and threw it on” look. And to be completely honest, old and frumpy can be cute at times—depending on how old and how frumpy. Vintage pieces are like gold—you end up feeling special and like one in a million. Also, hand knitted can be fun! So pull out those dreaded sweaters your mom knitted for you (when all you wanted to do was shop at the mall like the other girls) and pair the old things with some cute accesories. Remember, if you have big on top (comfy sweater) then do smaller on bottom (a slim skirt or straight-legged jeans).

I know you are on your feet a lot working in fashion PR. How do you reconcile your desire to be comfortable with a need to look put-together?
As my friend Lauren said to me earlier today “Antonia, bags are your children and shoes are your lovers.” Well this is true—shoes can literally sweet-talk me. I crave them (not that I crave lovers, but maybe i crave love?), yet uncomfortable shoes are like a bad boyfriend. You keep going back to them and keep getting burned (or blistered). Comfort comes first. Then comes fashion. And there are times when beauty is pain—or fashion is pain—but those times should not rule your everyday life.

So when it comes to shoes, I recommend platforms and wedges. That way your feet are higher off the ground and more supported. And flat boots can be appropriate for work too. I never wear my heels out of the house, but merely put them on when I get to my destination. So in my bag, you will always find a pair of Vans (sneaks) or super light GAP flats (when I get tired at work).

im starting to sound like a broken record. i know i know. i shouldnt have promised that id be blogging a lot over xmas. well hello. im back. back in the states, and im feeling a little bit rotten that i didnt write at all over my holiday. the last couple of days i spent in stockholm were filled with inspiration just from walking through the street, shopping and people watching. i really enjoy the broad spectrum of sthlms style. there are those girlies from söder who all look the same with their skinny jeans, big tshirts and biker boots. then there are those östermalms girls with their fur hats, longchamp totes (or lv speedys) dark jeans and knee high flat boots. then there are those who break out of the stereotypes and try a little bit of both. i like the ones who mix the old style with the new and the edgy with the sweet.

what my wallet and credit score are happy for is that i did not rape the sale racks as i could have. the winter sales in stockholm are pure madness. and ridiculous. unlike in the us when you see one or two racks on sale, at swedish boutiques everything is 40-70% off. i am talking everything. those things that arent even that old. i caught myself asking several times "are you sure its on sale?" i was pretty much in shock. i am feeling like a part of my soul is stuck at the NK sale. i didnt come out of there with the wool tiger of sweden coat i wanted or the whyred anorak. i am crying on the inside.

okay i can quite being so shallow now. i mean i did just write a whole paragraph on sales. uh...i apologize. but the plane ticket to stockholm just for sales would be so worth it.

almost on my way. i am all packed. ready to go. so excited. wish i could snap my fingers and be there, but hopefully it will be an easy across the pond. my new ipod is loaded with sex&the city episodes, wallis and gromit, and a couple of movies. but what am i most excited about? starting (finally-and i mean finally) the third stieg larsson book. do you have any idea how long i have been trying to start it? months. and today is the day. so i may be wearing my fav transformers tee right now, but ill be flying in rugby by ralph lauren dress and some bally winter boots. im all blinged up with my favo bracelets. there is just one issue. i have to remove them all before i go through the metal detector. the people behind me always sigh or grunt in frustration. sorry peeps but it's what i do for fashion. or actually, it's what i do for me.

okej okay. nu kör vi. ive been a liiiiitle busy the past wk, and my blogging appetite has been at an all time low. but now i am starting to rev my engines again, and i promise to get my act back together. i have a prof photographer on my hands (my dear mother), who has a great new camera, and i have a lot of adventures ahead.

as for boston? the weather is pure hell. there is about a foot of snow on the ground. not the fluffy, sweet kind. the wet, heavy, icy snow. my poor little sister is stuck in dallas after her flight got cancelled. hopefully she will fly tmrw. even tho we are expecting another 4 to 6 inches. as long as our plane takes off on monday night, i am fine with the winter weather. but if i miss xmas because of a lame storm, i may throw a fit.

the la perla sample sale is ridiculous. i mean ridiculous. i found out about it since it is at the same space as the dvf sale was. 90% off. 15-20$ bras. 10-15$ underwear. whaaaaaaaaaaat? if you dont understand this, then maybe i should explain that la perla bras usually retail for $250-300. yes, expensive but it is also the most beautiful lingerie that you can find.

sad. very very sad. you know those small things that end up meaning so much more. well my fillippa k hat has gone missing. i think a cab may have stolen it or it was swallowed by a black hole. i cant find it anywhere, and i am extremely upset. i know, i know. it was free. it was black. it was plain. i can probably find a new one...but maybe i wont be able to! well when i turn my room upside down to pack later this week, i will look for it. until then, i am in mourning.

i am pretty sure i look as tired as i feel. which is exhausted.

my mom told me last week that i looked pretty awful during our skype conversation, and the doorman just told me to get some sleep. it may have something to do with the fact that my face has not seen the light of days for 2 weeks straight. i have been indoors committing myself to fashion, and i have completely forgotten there even is an outside world. while i worked the dvf sale, it was like i had fallen into a black hole. i went to bed at 9pm every evening and got up at 530 every morning. i was standing on my feet for 11-12 hours a day with short meal breaks. i didnt watch the news, check any blogs or properly keep in touch with friends or family. i didnt even know sean avery was interning at vogue (do we believe this?). oh well. i can finally slowly start entering the real world again. and i tried today, but my lack of energy got the best of me - or worst of me. it was a sluggish day, and every attempt i made at picking up my feet and moving them at a quicker pace was a failed one.

now i am sitting in bed at 7pm with a cup of the most delicious tea - cinnamon cardamom. i plan on reading my book, some blogs and catching up on guilty pleasure tv on my computer. i am more than excited that in a week, i will be on a plane to sweden at this time. i cannot wait to touch down on swedish ground again.

as expected, i only stayed at the holiday bash for a little bit. it fun seeing everyone, but i felt like there was a pound of sand in my eyes. the party was hopping - karis had a wonderfully christmasy sweater with kitties all over it from an 'ugly xmas sweater party', and she set the table with lots of goodies. there was even a 7foot inflatable grinch hanging from the ceiling.

i am a sleepy face. i feel like i was hit by a truck. and the truth is, i just survived a dvf sample sale. i feel like death. my feet still ache, and my back is all done up in knots. some hard earned money later, i am wondering where i am going to put all my new acquired clothing. there is no space in this closet of an apartment. luckily, a lot of the pieces are gifts. so time to start packing.

off to go celebrate the holidays swegypitan style - a party hosted by my brother and his egyptian friend.

exhausted. again. 2 more days. last night, all of us were tired beyond our wildest dreams. and instead of waking up refreshed like i had the previous two mornings, i started off at rock bottom. my feet were aching at 9am, and my back kept giving out when i went to bend down. being on your feet for 11+ hours every day for three days straight is extremely tiring. i have bruises on my hand from carrying too many hangers of clothing at once. and we were all zombie-like today. by the end we were definitely delirious. i spent hours organizing racks of clothing. at one quiet point during the afternoon, i organized the entire size 4 and size 6 racks by color. i was so proud of myself, and it made me feel so fulfilled. i made sure all of the hangers were perfectly straight. i would then turn around and find a customer had messed them up again. there is no point. it's a sample sale, and my ocd ways are not going to help save the mess. two more days. we slashed prices today, and who knows if they'll slash em more on sat. all i know is that my feetsies are getting a pedicure on sunday (my only day off before i leave for boston on the 19th).

i feel like death.

story of my morning so far:

woke up at 4:45. checked my clock. fell back asleep. alarm went off at 5:20. stared at my phone in disbelief for a couple of minutes. dragged my butt out of my warm bed. put on my sports bra, workout pants, mismatching socks and the first tshirt i could find. winced as i put on sneakers (have blisters in between toes). stumbled downstairs. was shocked by how warm it is outside (60 degrees). walked to equinox. nearly died on elliptical. nearly died on bike. nearly died doing weights. walked home. made tea. and now i am staring at my computer screen.

i need to shop for xmas presents. what better way to do that than on your bed without moving more than your fingers.

exhausted. the only word i can find to describe how i am feeling. i worked the diane von furstenburg sample sale for 11 hours today. and 11 hours yesterday. tomorrow? 12 hours. 8:30am to 8:30pm. i am working until saturday. it is a lot of work, and it's tough being on your feet all day but it is also a lot of fun. the girls are a riot, and the customers have all been super friendly. time to get some sleep :) i may not be blogging much in the next couple of days. sry!

it's snowing and from the looks of it...it's starting to stick. :)

so last night was adventurous to say the least. we ended up uptown. the most disappointing part of the whole evening was the fact that the track ball to my phone went missing in a cab. so i couldnt scroll at all on my blackberry. which is a crackberry. luckily, the handy dandy service men at the at&t technical support store replaced the whole phone for free today. so im up and running again! phew. that was a close one.

well i must venture out into the cold weather for a bday party.

there is nothing i love more than a mimosa on a sunday morning. and by morning i mean after 1pm when i am finally awake. champagne and orange juice? oh im always up for killing two birds with one stone.

however, i dont believe i have anything in my closet in that color. ((which is named after the flower.))

well, i better get crackin' and shoppin' because pantone just named color 14-0848 or Mimosa as the color of year 2009. they say it represents "hope and optimism." well, that may just have something to do with the fact that mimosas always just make you feel so nice and tipsy. and champange makes most people, well, giggly. so cheers to a new year of hope and optimism with this bright orangey yellow color in our closets.

i had a long day at work today. at times, the clock felt like it was moving backwards instead of forwards. but it was also a lot of fun, and i really laughed a lot. it's definitely getting darker earlier, which makes me reach for a red bull around 4pm. broke in my new shoes today, which were surprisingly comfortable and warm. my sis lent me her camera for the time being while mine is at the hospital of canon cameras, and so i will start using it tomorrow. sorry for the lack of posts and lack of photography.

AE: It's not an easy time. You have to be smart. Now is the time to hide the shine. It's either inexpensive—a T-shirt—or it's something that makes you want to own it, that gives you the desire. happy thanksgiving from boston. i had a quite unconventional day without any turkey. see, the thing is that my family celebrates on friday when my brother gets home. so tomorrow will be a more typical turkey day with a splash of swedish jul food in between. today we took a walk through the boston common, and then we had a bite at the four seasons.

Just got to beantown. How did I feel rolling in? Like another family holiday was looming. I kid I kid. It's always fun to see the parentals, and it will be an experience to show oma + opa how americans celebrate turkey day.
Another pro to the drama of the thanksgiving holiday? You can always treat all those mental and emotional bruises (thanks to family members) with some retail therapy on Friday. The beginnings of some sick sales for the next couple weeks before xmas. But um you know I am more excited to just spend the holiday with my family - shopping is the least of my concerns. Cough cough. Suuuure.

Wearing the biggest sweater I could find in my closet. It's from when my brother was a teenager (the 80s). Big, white, cable knit and so comfy.

someone is definitely laughing upstairs. my life must be a comedy to the big man. so today was the shut down of the sample sale, and i walked out of there with all of my things - happy as a clam. then bounced down to soho, and of course i fell for the michael kors shoes i have wanted - this time on sale! half off. woooot. so then i walked over to apple, and poof. right there in front of the store on prince street, my sample sale bag broke, spraying acne clothes all over the sidewalk. my first instinct? grab the clothes. i had no care in the world that i was blocking everyone's way. effff that. i just wanted to make sure no one grabbed my new things! they were way more important. so i then managed to stuff everything into the mkors bag. i trekked down to canal street for the 1 train, and made it all the way down the stairs, through the doors and only then realized i was at the uptown station. so i walked back upstairs and out to the street. well, that is when the mkors bag broke. so i stuffed everything into my handbag and layered my new scarves around my neck and my sweater around my waist.

so the story ends with a girl exhausted and drenched in sweat because god has some serious humor.

off to work off some of my frustration at the gym. lauren gets in at 11. yipee.

the sample sale took all of the energy out of me this week. i will blog when i get home this afternoon. its time to pack up all the pretty things that are left over. last night, alex met me at the sale around 7 and we headed for a small bite at great jones cafe. and then we hung out in the cozy lobby of the bowery hotel.

on my way out the door in a little bit. 2nd day of the sample sale. no more boxes to unpack, no clothes to hang up. now it's all about the benjamins ($). went to equinox to work out at 6am this morning. what was wall street like? a frozen tundra. ok maybe not a tundra exactly, but it was frigid. it smelled like winter. im not kidding. that wonderful smell of cold air and grey days. well, it's supposed to snow today. i wouldnt be surprised if boston was hit with a snow storm before thanksgiving. typical new england weather. why does it have to be so moody? speaking of moody. my tshirt of choice today? my friend andrew's tee that he designed last spring. "i want to change the world but im so sleepy." thats how i feel today. working the sample sale till 3:30 then work 4-11 at sera. then my face will hit the pillow, i promise.

drowning is a big fear for most. sure, it's one of mine too. especially after seeing 'the perfect storm' when i was 14 yrs. old. however, drowning in sample sale clothes is pretty much my idea of heaven. that was my day today. piles of acne, filippa k, and nudie. i was pretty much on cloud nine when they unleashed us at 5pm to 'shop all we wanted.' to get the first pick of the clothes we had been slaving over all day was exactly what i needed. i had been freezing from my toes (which were squeezed into my fav converse sneaks) up to my ears all afternoon and had taken a liking to the cronic parka so it ended up in my pile of must haves. it is coming home with me. as are several other accessories. love love love. that is all i feel fluttering in my heart for the acne items at the sample sale.

come by wed + thurs at 33 w. 26th street 5th floor from 11-7pm. and shop till you drop. or drown in acne. i love it.
