good day.

i wont lie to you. sometimes, i wish i had a british accent. i also wish i could wear wellies everyday and bounce around in puddles on bond street. ive dreamed of living in london since i was young. it must have been that movie "bedknobs and broomsticks" that got me hooked on GB. i mean i do drink enough tea to be british, and if my thighs allowed it, i would eat several scones and butterfly cakes a day.
why the rant about the british? well, it is london fashion week! look how cute brit alexa chung looks. that bag is "i die" (to quote rachel zoe - if you've seen the bravo reality show).

kate moss.

topshop is still under construction in soho. whenever im in stocktown (stockholm), i always make sure to drop into the topshop at gallerian. well now, i dont even need to make a trip across the pond to visit the british fashion mecca. while the store is still under construction, you can always visit the newly launched US site HERE! while online shopping can be a guilty pleasure, walking into a store and trying on the clothes is even better. being 5'11, i cant exactly trust the online photos, and who knows if these grey heels are rather narrow. best that i wait. but i can still ogle.

talk about a fashion statement.

here is my mom's new MJ tote that my brother picked up at the vogue party for obama last week. the funniest part was when i took the first photo and my mom flipped out. she said "wait! i have to take off my sarah palin glasses!!". sorry i forgot my camera in nyc.

sneaker fever.

some hot sneaks. these veja trainers are made from organic cotton and natural latex from amazonia. the leather is all ecological. they are considered "fair trade sneakers." you can find more photos of the collection here.

oh!

sorry im a total flake when it comes to following up on my adventures that i promise to write about. like the bullseye bodega trip. i did come out one item richer. ill show it later!

sundayfunday.

sorry ive been lacking on the blogging front. yesterday, i was in whole foods in tribecks (tribeca), and i found these little tom shoes. my sister and i have been fans since they launched in 2006. these are the sweetest little toms. they are for toddlers! check out the toms site here.

tgif.

good morning from a crippled antonia. im sorry i didnt blog yesterday. it was a very long day, and it only become an even longer night. last night, i switched from heels to my minnetonka fringed flat (key word) boots after dinner. then my roomate and i headed uptown to a friends apartment. we were walking to the corner store to pick up chips for the guacamole, when i went flying onto the ground. there was a huge hump on the corner of 50th and 3rd ave. since i was more concerned with the cars, i didnt take the time to look down and see the hump. next thing i knew, i was being picked up off the street by several people. well, i brushed myself off and continued to walk on it all night, only to wake up this morning unable to walk at all. well, fear not my friends reading this - i have a knee immobilizer and crutches messengered over to me. then, i am off to bullseye bodega. target's budget "sample sale" set up like a neighborhood store. everything will be dirt cheap. here are the designers that will be featured:
Anya Hindmarch
Christiane Lemieux - DwellStudio for Target
Converse One Star
Dean Harris
Isabelle de Borchgrave
Jemma Kidd – JK Jemma Kidd
John Derian

thurs.

morning. i am currently placed in my bed with plenty of pillows propped up against my back. i had a long day yesterday with some volunteering and a fashion wk party. it was all very intense, but so much fun. today, i am off to have coffee with my roomate in central park. then a possible stroll through the city. my plans are rather open.
i found this one nylon's blog. it seems that jenni kayne was inspired by lykke li. told you her style hysteria would spread to the US too.

cupcakes & clothes.

some designers are inspired by indigenous tribes, and some are inspired by a role model from a specific era. and then there are those who are on the same wave length as me. they are inspired by food and sweets. no, i have not designed a clothing collection, but i can imagine if i did - it would be based on my love for the culinary arts. pastries and desserts are marvelous forms of art, and who says fashion cant follow your tastebuds? well, that is exactly what andy & debb did when they modeled many of their blouses in their s/summer 2009 collection after the swirls and volume of the iceing on a cupcake. the designers told style.com, “We were baking with our children one day, and we noticed how sculptural cupcake liners are. So we used them, and cupcakes, as the basis for the collection.” this collection pushes the bar for feminine again. the clean lines and romantic cuts of fabric really give you the feel of a slightly more modern great gatsby movie.

rag&bone.

love this look. so sophisticated yet laid back country girl meets the big city...

dvf.

flower power to the max at dvf. the pinkish nude lips fit perfectly with dvfs flowery prints, letting the clothes speak for themselves. and the flowered headdresses added even more energy to the flirty bohemian pieces, which were inspired by diana vreeland.

runway for dkny.

im sensing bows in our future...aka spring 2009. i approve. bright colors, big contrast. oversize bows on teeny mini skirts and mini dresses. but my favorite look by far is the slouchy jeans with the ruffly top. so über relaxed.

my sunday.

a wonderful afternoon in the hudson river park on the west side highway.

in the pic: my llbean carryall bag. sugar free redbull. ipod. the sunday times. my minnetonka moccasins that ive had for too many years. agua. swedish cookies & cakes book. javier bardem's beautiful face.

josef frank.

for any of you who have seen mamma mia (the new movie) then you have subconsciously been bombarded with josef frank fabric. the movie had a scene when they are dancing through clothes lines covered with josef frank's color full linens. the swede designed over 200 patterns between 1909 and 1950 (i wiki-ed it), and today you can find his graphic prints at many scandinavian design stores including svenskt tenn in stockholm, sweden.
why do i bring this up? well, i was in the lobby at the maritime hotel yesterday, and i realized that their couches are covered in his "manhattan" fabric. here is a verrry bad photo. i apologize. i didnt have my camera with me, so i had to use the bberry's camera.

dkny.

just stopped by bloomingdales for some spanx tights (they are the most opaque tights i have found), and i checked out the dkny fall collection while i was there. i love the colors, and the patterns are really retro. the paisley is a big trend this season, but dkny does it in a subtle way without overpowering the shape of the dress. the sweater dress was so heavy, it could definitely keep you warm on those walks through central park at lunchtime. oh and it has pockets - which means im sold.

sunday.

tropical storm hanna pounded nyc with some heavy rain last night. i spent my evening at the movies with ss and kd. i finally saw the dark knight, and it felt like half of manhattan chose to see the movie too. today, the weather is beautiful, and therefore i am on my way out into the city. im going to lay out in the hudson river park with the sunday edition of the times, ipod and my stieg larsson book.

yigal azrouël.

one of my favorite doors in ny city is the glass door at yigal azrouël in the meatpacking district with the huge wooden door handle. that has nothing to do with this post, but i figured id throw it out there.
well, while i was calling ny magazine editors and freelancers yesterday, the brilliance of yigal azrouël was being displayed on the runway. i love how he describes himself as a perfectionist at making his clothes far from perfect. “I want them to look like they have experience. Like [they] got kind of damaged. I think it makes [them] look cooler.” ((wwd.com)) the rough edges, subtle colors and mix of fabrics gives the spring 2009 collection that nonchalant glamorous feeling of "oh this old thing?". well it works. and itll make the trend hunter/brand whore's head spin when they cant figure out who made it.
