halloween come early?

luella's ready to wear fall 2008.

wish i may...

brunettes can wish to be blonde. curly haired girls wish for straight strands.  blondes wish to be brainy brunettes. straight stranded chickas wish to have curly locks.

so i have have wavy hair, which can either resemble those of a mermaid or the looks of rough hay stack. i have blonde hair, which has resembled malibu barbie tresses, and i have even taken the jump to the dark side. ive had bangs, long and short.

but what i want most of all at the moment is something that is not as easy to acquire...a middle part. yes, a silly part down the middle of my head. ala gisele, sienna or heidi. i have attempted it and the results? i have been told i look silly, young and "just not myself". so me and my side-part are inseparable...or are we?

melt baby melt.

the summer heat must be too much to handle for these earrings by matter.

i dont know about you, but i despise those chunky cheesy fake chanel pendants that girls pick up on canal st. and parade around town in. however, i do rather enjoy this melted version. hip to the hop.

fall.

urban outfitters fall movie.

that whoa factor.

a bright watch for fall? do you dare? or is it
only your wrist's summer fling?

fine, go for a navy blue if you dont dare kidnap the summer season neon into the autumn months.

wish i was...

wish i was edgy enough to wear this wild matt weston necklace. you can find it here.i could pull this off. just maybe. in a blue moon.

trends...

i hate to be too trendy. but i figure i should share my viewpoints on the upcoming fall season. so what is coming into popularity? im not talking crocs or uggs popularity. these are the trends that were seen all over the runways, and that the trend/brand conscious will be following.
here we go:

the suit: wide shoulders but a continued defined waist.
who made menswear a strong statement?
isabel marant, dries von noten (flowers from top to toe), john richmond, jil sander, whyred, etro, yohji yamato, louis vuitton.
etro takes it to another level with the school-boy look with a drooping bow & feather clutch.

plum:
who pulled it off?
proenza schouler, bottega veneta, alberta ferretti and dior
bottega veneta dares to be different in head-to-toe plum.

sweaters: every fall we see this warm staple re-enter our wardrobes. this fall, it's all about pockets, large knitting and huge collars.
who worked it?
marni, stella mccarntney, byblos,  fendi, missoni (with boatneck collars),
donna karen and sonya rykiel.

cozy, huh?

lace: i mentioned lace in my last post. sure, lace has been present in the past. what are you thinking of? madonna? small lace gloves? im sorry, but lace has hit another level now. CLASSY.
who rolled out the red carpet for some lacey garments and accessories?
prada, carin wester, roberto cavalli, and alexander mcqueen.

i feel like im stuck in an adams family/hitchcock movie. this lace is a bit much. but do you expect anything less of the out-there alexander mcqueen?

voila.

im back. so sorry. not that there are too many followers anyways. i feel like i owe humanity + new york + my friends + boston, a couple new blog posts. so what can i come up with? well, i can give you a forecast. no, no. no weather forecast. but im back. in full force. okay, i lie. im still in sweden, so that means that im at 75% force. i promise that i will use my noggin at full capacity, but i cant promise anything too impressive.

okay so moving on...the following are a few posts on the upcoming fall trends. enjoy.

lace.

lace is the definition of lady-like.prada is going all out with their lace in their fall 2008 ready to wear, which comes off as a bit gothic meets mary poppins. cavalli did the virginal look with white lace and full skirts. if full on lacey white or black gowns are a tad too prude, why dont you grab a lace accessory or pair the lace with a casual tank or wornout jeans.

wallpaper days ahead.

have you ever driven by a rundown house in the woods, where you can see straight into the deserted shack? the broken windows or open door reveal the 1950s wallpaper strewn all over? those big flowers and odd color combinations which are so far from subtle have slowly been invading fashion in the form of fabric in the last few years. you saw prada do it last season with pinks and purples. jimmy choo picked up the classic marimekko patterns and ran with them. both up and coming design moguls as well as old favorites (like dvf) have reintroduced these prints.

is it here to stay? the prints may fade during some seasons, but they'll be back with full vengeance. this i believe at least. there is something for everyone. this upcoming fall season, the patterns fall into the darker hues with black and white flowers, golds, and deep purples. the patterns resemble brocade and plastic flower arrangements you might find in your attic.

posting again! shocccker.

okay, so it's pretty sad to see that my blog has "one post" in july, but im back. surprised? i am.

so this is a post about a big pet peeve of mine.
white sneakers SHOULD BE clean.
i dont mean as white as the day you got them. that would be considered obsessive compulsive, but avoid the mud puddles and dirt patches.
i dont care if you're wearing white nike air highs, converse, vans or even dior. keep em clean.
sorry but that whole "im a city-dweller" look does not work for me.
i dont care if you've been riding on the subway from fulton street to 125th street or that you have a small paycheck.
please spare me the grungy look.
i dont care if you have to buy new shoes or windex to clean your trainers, just do it.
or just go buy some black sneakers (and keep them respectively clean).

okay i am done bitching.
thanks.
love,
antonia.

i fell off the face of the planet...

i didnt quite fall off the face of the planet...but close. i have been busy traveling in the last couple of weeks. a week in beantown and a week in the big apple. so now that im back in sweden, ive decided to get down to business with this blog. so i am going to try to start bombarding it with post after post. to start off, i understand it's only mid-july but every fashion blog and mag is talking fall fall fall. well, hold up. im not done talking about summer! so here goes.

the swedish summer is so temperamental. i arrived in june to pure sunshine and warm temperatures of 30C+ (86F). end of june, the temperature dropped with overcast gray skies. my welcoming committee back into the country consisted of drizzle and 15 degrees celsius. um, last time i checked, that's spring weather. but that is what you have to prepare yourself for in this country. swedish summer can be compared to a hormonal teenager that just cant make up its mind.

so this post is all about what was hot during the "hot" days of summer. as in the other parts of the world, the gladiator look was in. as it may be losing momentum on the north american continent, it is still in full swing here. also, CHINOs. did this catch on in new york or LA? i have no idea, as i was cut off from that area of the world for a while, but it seems proper enough to work anywhere. i love the clean, preppy look of a pair of Acne Pop Chinos rolled up with a oversized men's belt. hmm but shoes? that's the question? do you go for a pair of simple white keds or spring court sneaks or maybe a pair of neutral Acne Alek platforms.

for Day: embrace your inner-child and go for some neutral/white trainers.
for Night: go crazy. eh maybe not crazy. but live a little and pair the chinos with some tall-ass shoes.

oh p.s. dont forget to roll up the bottoms. none of this "i go to prep school" shit. you have to change the world's perception of chinos. go ahead, do it.
