very cool photog.

i really enjoy david vasiljevic's work. his pics are so simple yet bold. check out some of the montages here.
pic: from his website.

christopher bailey is genius.

obviously im lame and a little behind since i only found this video recently, but i am still thrilled by christopher baileys s-summer collections at burberry. he has helped morph the brand into an edgy and bright reality. the platform gladiator sandals with socks and the fierce colored trenches are exactly what the doctor ordered. or should i say the fashion world. bravo.

happy midsummer.

we're celebrating midsummer in sweden today. it's as big as 4th of july is in the us. comparable in some ways with great food, friends and fun. swedish traditions of the holiday include snaps, sill (herring), potatoes and a cake with strawberries, lots of silly songs and dancing around a midsummer pole. oh and a flowery crown in the girls hair. im gunna try my best to do something festive with my hair. we'll see if i succeed. i am rather worthless when it comes to hair-do's.
so out here in the country, we are praying for continued sunshine. swedes have spent far too many midsummer nights pouting over pouring rain.

glad midsommar från sverige!

love & peace.

with all the music festivals going on, i really should dedicate a couple entries to the hippies. so here goes. this is not a festival outfit but i guess it could be. i am crazy about the frye vintage harness boots. crazy crazy crazy. with a simple splendid dress in grey and kettle black peace sign fringe bag, they hit the spot. throw in some bright red leather heart wrap bracelets by accessories and beyond and square gold gara dannielle bangles with peace signs. eh im too lazy to find a bag + belt. sorry. but who says, simple isnt best?

euro.

so im in sweden. and as you know euro is infatuated with the euro 2008 football (soccer) championship right now. lately, all of the swedish fashion bloggers (who have any say in the countries trends) have been giving tips on how to dress in yellow and blue (our colors) for the games. im sorry, but if you're a true fan, why the hell would you be wearing 3.1 phillip lim to a football watching party. if you want to be "fashionable" at least go in the right decision, by wearing the swedish jersey tucked into a blue see by chloe skirt with yellow fendi flats. and im huge fan of platforms even at 5'11 (180cm), but i believe you should be ashamed if you wear platform espadrilles to a match.

comfy.

i love walking. but i have super high arches, which results in raw pain in my shins, knees and hips. i should probably listen to my chiropractor and orthopedic surgeon and get orthopedic insoles, but hey, i want to wear heels and flats like every other girl. sometimes, i dont want to be so different. so as many of you know, im crazy about sneaks or trainers. my fav pairs include my grey/white van slip ons, my high-top white converses and some of my pumas. but my absolutely favorite shoes to walk in are my spring court sneaks. they are simple and have enough arch support to let me skip and hop through a whole day in nyc, stockholm or dallas. i bought em at madewell but ive seen em in many places.
they come in a variety of colors. with a pair of rolled up chinos or white linen shorts, they look fresh.

scandinavian.

here are two new scandinavian designers i discovered this wknd in stockholm during a trip to NK.

Nakkna: started in 2003, this swedish brand is run by three rather anonymous designers. their lines are all about simple colors and shapes.

Pimpinette: i am totally infatuated with swedish pimpinettes girly look. they have this dress that is based off of an old fashioned apron with ruffles on the arms.

id rather be barefoot.

if there is something i hate more than one-armed hugs and pickled herring, it's the "look" of teva-type sandals with socks underneath. what the hell are people thinking? do the socks dress up the heinous strappy sandals? do they keep your feet extra warm? it already looks like terrible with those large velcro straps strangling your feet? unless your shoes + socks look was advised by karl lagerfeld himself, please spare me.

unconditional love perhaps?

do you think furniture design is comparable to fashion? sure, there are similar fabrics and shapes. id say british designer Philip Stevens has done a pretty good job adjusting to menswear and womenswear. from the memorable photo of kate moss in the faux fur bikini from october 07's W mag (which you can find here). i dig this bright green jacket. i can picture a tweed sofa in the same color. time to watch this british designer.

smile.

these days, the smiley doesnt adorn every teenage tee-shirt and accessory as it did a couple years ago. and im rather glad for that. but luella pulled out the smiley card last spring and moschino cheap and chic did this year. i love the a smudge/drip effects.

classic or daring?

ballet is all about rules, poses and form. the feeling of a ballet slipper hugging your foot is like no other foot wear. many designers have tried to reproduce that feeling of comfort, and my foot has considered them failures. if only there was a designer who could compare to the classic capezio ballet slipper. sure, go ahead and pirouette around town in them (as my mother did in her twenties) but watch out for the occasional puddle.

so these studded flats found on bona drag are unique, but id appreciate it if they didn't give off such a strong amy winehouse vibe. maybe someone can design some capezios with buttons or small silver flowers. maybe my sister-in-law who is taking a shoe design course in london next month. what do you say yasemin?

adorable.

this is a great miu miu skirt. however, on my long legs it would most likely be as short as an ex-boyfriends t-shirt. it would hit the top of my thighs -- leaving little to the imagination. the ruffles are wonderful and put a girl twist on the rather mundane (yet typical miu miu) jewel tones. this is one of those times when i wish i was a petite little brunette. the grass is always greener on the other side, right?
