midget cool.
suits.
Every. Single. Day. Everyday, I see awful suits walking down wall street. Living in the FiDi (don't worry - you'll be using it soon too) you see business professionals to the max. It is shocking how few of them know how to dress. An olive colored suit is okay, but pushing it. A hunter green one though? Please spare me. Not working for you...or anyone. I want to see style. Not walmart. If you have enough education to mess with my money on Wall Street, you should educate yourself on looking good. Or hire some one to do it for you.
And those thick sole dress shoes that could survive a hike through the andes...yeahh....get. rid. of. them.
here is an example of a GOOD suit. an AWESOME look.
guessing the pic is from sartorialist.
Sorry men of the financial world, but appearance can be everything.

And shoes tell you a lot about a man. A lot.
Okay I'm done ranting.

balmain...
i agree with caroline engman from fashionsquad.com when she says "christophe decarnin for president!".
balmain's spring 2009 rtw was nothing less than genius. about 6 months ago, i raved about their bell bottoms. well now, i want to go all rocker chic and live in these rippity-ripped clothes. and the sequins. and the soldier jacket? duh. i love.

finally...
finally a member of polyvore so i can quit filling up pages of this blog with empty space and one photograph after another. let me see if it works.
boots.
janet jackson on the cover of W in october 2006
however, now we are seeing them pop up in every day life. they are slightly more subtle with the option of flats instead of heels. and they will surely offer some warmth to your patella's (knee caps). hm well. i am dreading even trying them on because i have the longest calves known to man, which will make them not "over-the-knee" but probably more along the lines of "awkwardly-at-the-bottom-of-my-knee". we'll have to see if i dare try them on. my favorites are the farylrobin ones below. you can find them here at shopbop.com

gucci rtw spring 2009.
as wwd put it, gucci's collection in milan was a crowd pleaser and will become another "commercial winner". target: "the pleasure-seeking Gucci adventurer who wants to escape, and explore.” the colors were neutral hues such as a safari beige mixed with vivid blues, oranges, purples and greens. the day look was far more relaxed than i would have expected from frida giannini, with fedoras and skinny low rise pants and tailored blazers. and she hit a chord with her dramatic night looks, each which had a dramatic large scale flowing nature. both made me want to jump on a yacht to cannes and monte carlo.

the forecast predicts...
i have learned to take the weather forecaster's predictions with a grain of salt. one grain. well according to the weather feature on a ny taxi's computer screen on sunday, this upcoming wknd was supposed to be "nice" and "sunny". well, that quickly changed. now there is a 70% chance of rain on saturday and a 40% chance of rain on sunday. wouldnt it be nice if the weather gods could give us a cloudless sky with a breeze and a temp of 65 degrees for the first weekend of autumn? but no.
here is my little munchkin Skippy and i about to head out on a walk in the woods in sweden!
hunter boots were a must, of course.
time to breakout the wellies. check out these new shorter hunter boots. you can find them HERE on shopbop.com.
the look for less.
the whole pearl necklace with a ribbon look is back. i never quite caught onto that trend a few years back, and now lanvin is trying to bring it back. well here is the look for less, and a look i like better.
on top, is the lavin necklace with diamond accents in between. it retails for $670 at barneys. you can find it here.
the second picture is j.crew's version of the necklace. i like the use of stones better than the try-hard pearls. i guess i have just left my pearl-wearing-all-girls-prepschool-days behind me. it retails for $55 at j.crew, and you can find it here.

proof.
wwd may have been right when they reported that prada's ss rtw shoes were a little on the ridiculous side. i mean the soft part of this heel does not look like it is very supportive at all. i'd fall, and i read that several of the models fell as they were exiting the stage. i'm not surprised.

pink.
in our world today, fashion is playing a big part in the fight for a cure of breast cancer. check out these cool tee's i found on lindex's website. the design contest brought in contestants from all over scandinavia, and now the winning t-shirts are being sold for 149kronor and 20% of the proceeds go to breast cancer research.
"primitive and archaic, yet sophisticated"
miuccia prada created a line of clean and simple designs for rtw s/s. no more lace. the parachuted fabric added volume to the absolute pieces. and in place of last year's flower print, this hooks some fishes and reptiles. the cuts of the pieces were very "archaic" and "primitive" as prada described. there was a definite "i just got in a fight with a caveman and kicked his ass" look to some of the dresses.
the shoes were all about big bigger biggest. i love wwd's description of the shoes:
"Folks, more sculptural, higher, chunkier, clunkier, strappier, bondage-ier — we get it. But maybe it’s time to cry uncle and downgrade to shoes that function as shoes, even on the runway. First, that oh-God-I’m-a-mom-don’t-let-the-poor-girl-fall anxiety becomes a huge distraction for the audience. Second, a fashion show is still supposed to have some commercial tie-in, however abstract or theoretical. What does it say if the girls paid to walk in the shoes can’t walk in the shoes?"
i agree. but i still am still loving the sky high look - as long as they are stable.
a look for less.
the frye engineer boots are a classic and a definite investment that is worth it, however if youre not up for the pricey motorcycle boots, check out the ones below from asos.com.

pas comme les moutons
headbands have been making a slow but sure comeback in the past year or so.
check these wonderfully handmade headbands by three young creative girls for a brand called pas comme les moutons. so lovely. pascommelesmoutons.blogspot.com
at the end check out the picture of my brother's always fashion forward girlfriend at a wedding.
such a model. similar to the headband above, huh?
just because...
just because intermix says it's a must have does not mean something is a must have. i mean, really? but this scarf is pretty darn close. i have too many scarves in my closet, but i keep finding more that i crave like a pop-ice on a hot-i-want-to-reminisce-on-childhood day of summer.
i have many evil eyes all over my apartment, since i grew up in the middle east and my sister-in-law is turkish. i love their symbolism and power.
you can find these otrera scarves at intermix or on their website here.
im in the mood for...
some pink in my life? if i could afford this louis chair, it would be sitting in my room right now. well, that is my closet of a room. i might get tired of the pink, but at 11pm at night, it seems like a brilliant chair.
you can find it here on sweetpea and willow's website.
egg coat.
emmys.
surfing style.com today, i cant say i was too impressed with the outfitted emmy stars. i know that's awful to say after many of the designers and stylists put their blood sweat and tears into the designs and looks, but really i wasn't wow-ed. i thought a few of the gowns were beautiful but there was nothing that struck me as stepping or jumping out of the box, and you know what, sometimes that's needed.

a peace treaty.
a peace treaty's winter collection was just launched. love the bright and warming colors for the upcoming cold month.
you can find the online shop here.
alex chung does it again.
cozy.
fancy a stroll in central park? the leaves are beginning to change in new england, and it's time to pull out the ponchos & capes. not cold enough for the full-on winter coat quite yet, but that nip in the air is on it's way to the new york area.
whoa.
it's sunday, and i am in a hyper blogging mode. i have a million blogs open in safari, and it may have something to do with the sf red bull i just downed. well, while i gather my thoughts and find something worth blogging about, watch this great video from net-a-porter.com. it asks some of the world's most important editors if they consider themselves minimalists or maximalists.
check it out here.
i love tim blanks answer.
temperley london.
rocking the mbt sneaks.
went on a walk with the dogs yesterday. when going on a walk through the woods, why not work on your calf muscles and posture? i jumped into my mom's MBT sneakers for the walk. she has the hiking boot version that is a little bit higher in the ankle for extra support.
these ones would be more appropriate for the big apple. you can read more about mbt sneakers here.
